Anglo American Sporting Agency (Tate GunMakers LLC) established in 2002, is an importer and dealer in fine guns and accessories from England, Italy and Spain. One of the principals, Dale Tate, was apprenticed as an actioner for six and a half years at the renowned firm of James Purdey & Sons, London, England. This was followed by a stint as a restoration specialist at Peter Dyson and Sons, purveyor to the English fine gun trade, Yorkshire. Mr. Tate is a member of the Guild of Master Craftsmen for GunMaking in England.

Anglo American is the western United States importer for AYA shotguns from Eibar, the famous gunmaking town in the northern Basque region of Spain. AYA has been making long guns since 1917, first for other firms and then beginning in the late 1930s, under its own name. It has exported shotguns to the United States since the 1950s.

Additionally Anglo American is one of the first American firms to produce the equivalent of a “London Best” shotgun from high-quality foreign-sourced components--a practice that has been proven in Britain. The Tate difference is that now one can have such a fine shotgun handmade over here by outstanding American as well as English craftsmen.

Anglo American imports barreled actions “in the white” from Spain, Italy or even England. Our highly trained specialists then begin the lengthy process of creating a bespoke gun—made to the owner’s measure and specifications. Each gun is unique, a collaboration of efforts that translates the customer’s concept of his or her “best” gun into a fully functional piece of art. No two guns are exactly alike, as no two individuals are the same.

Dedicated, talented people make the difference. Each artisan Tate selects for these tasks has apprenticed and worked in England or worked extensively in the US. All are experts in their fields.
